There are no open buses or tour buses like in Vietnam which were mainly filled with westerners. So I ended up taking a local bus from Phnom Penh to Kampong Cham.
Luckily there is one main local bus company that goes everywhere around Cambodia. I booked from my hostel and they said a mini van would come pick me up at 12:15 and then the bus would leave at 12:45. I was expecting all this to be later like all the schedules in South East Asia. The mini van came to pick me up at 11:45 so I had to scramble to get all of my stuff. Never in my wildest dreams did i imagine that a bus would come early. I then got dropped off at the bus station and it was utter chaos. There was only 1 bay and about 10 different buses were trying to load and unload passengers. They announced what I thought was my bus and the guy checked my ticket and I climbed on board. I went and got in my seat and overheard the people in front of me talking about what they were going to do in Kampot.
That was when I discovered I was on the wrong bus so I went to the front and asked one of the staff and he said that the bus to Kampot was a different number, so I asked for my ticket back so I could get on the other bus. He went and got the ticket from the guy I have it to and then walked away. In a bus station that busy I immediately lost him. Not wanting to miss my bus I ran around looking for someone else to get me my ticket. I found a guy who somehow knew which guy took mine and got it back for me. He then sent me across the street to where the bus was being loaded at the gas station(not sure how I was supposed to discover that).
I sat down in my seat to discover that it was broken. The reclining button was pushed in so that the seat back didnt stay upright when you leaned against it. Not really a big problem but as a Canadian I was concerned that it would bother the old guy sitting behind me. Luckily he didnt mind and the rest of the ride went pretty quickly.
Over all not quite as good as the overnight buses that they have in Vietnam but still good.
