Chiang Mai > Bangkok

In my opnion: Chiang Mai > Bangkok
From right after I got my baggage and went outside I could tell. There was no flashy taxi places trying to get them to take their cab. Just two small ones with advertised prices. 150 baht ($5) to go pretty much anywhere into town. a pretty sweet deal.
My cab driver, "Mr. Champion:,  was really nice and didn't try to sell me anything or take me anywhere. We had a nice conversation and took me straight to my hotel and told me about all the the little markets that were in town and which ones were the best to go to.
Chiang Mai

Streets of Chiang Mai:
The city is laid out pretty interestingly, i like it. there is the main Square with a while bunch of odd angled little streets some 1 way others 2 way inside it. All along the square is a ditch/pond like thing with fountains and lights. On either side there is a main road about 3 lanes wide. The inside of the square runs 1 way counter clockwise and the outside square clockwise. About every 100m there are turn arounds to go to the other side of the street and head the other direction. The traffic flows really smoothly along the main square which is nice for commuters. not so nice for pedestrians. it seems like people are coming from every direction without stopping (because they are) when you get to the turn-around/intersections. there are some cross walks that give you a red light for about 10 seconds but cars just slow down and sometimes dont even stop to let you cross. I guess thats why everyone rents a motorbike or a bicycle.
Chiang Mai doesnt seem to have very many street vendors, which I really dont mind one bit. lots of shops and restaurants and a couple food stands but no one at all trying to shove things in your face, everyone just seems to keep to themselves and then when you look like you are in need of help they help you. it very nice in comparison the Bangkok

Bali - Ubud and Kuta

Bali is beautiful I wish that we could have spent more time there but we ended up getting stuck on gili. To make up we spent 3 nights in a place called Ubud and did a day tour where we saw soooo much. We saw a traditional Balinese dancing. it was really cool cause there was no instruments. The men who were seated all around chanted and made a whole bunch of different sounds it sounded like there was music coming from all around you. They also made the setting by changing how they were sitting and moving around. at one point they turned into a snake that was transformed from an arrow that was shot by the evil king. afterword there was a man who was dressed as a horse danced around on burning coconut husks. i didnt really understand the reasoning but it was impressive all the same. We went to a bunch of different temples which were all very intricate. Harvested some rice with some old ladies who tried to charge me for it after. The s...

Cameron Highlands - tea, tea plantations, clouds, tea leaves, some more tea

I decided my next stop would be the Cameron Highlands which is in central peninsular Malaysia. The elevation there is a lot higher so it was nice to cool down a little but from the heat that I have been used to every where else. One of the main attractions is the tea plantations. From here you can buy a cup of tea and watch them from the balcony harvesting the tea leaves and throwing them in a basket on their back. Some very nice views. You can also go walk among the tea fields where we tried cutting some leaves. Very nice balcony at the cafe. The other thing that people do is go to the look out point which is at the tallest mountain in Malaysia (so all the signs said) When we got there we discovered that it was super foggy so we couldn't really see much.   And here are some clouds that I thought were interesting enough at the time to take a picture of. On the way back to town we found ourselves becoming extras in a Mal...

Pai - Updated with pictures

I like Pai. (pronounced "bpai", say the b and the p together) Its a quiet little town, not very big, which is good cause I seem to get lost here a lot. It's a really interesting dynamic here. Everyone is super chill. all the locals just mozy around or hangout at their shops. There are lots of westerners (hippies) that seem to have just moved here. And then there are the tourists. Only the good ones though, none of the people who are just in Thailand to party (everyone in Bangkok). About every other store/stand that you see here is a T-shirt shop. They all have various shirts saying things like "Love is Pai" and "762 turns to Pai". Basically everything here celebrates that you made it to and are in Pai. All the restaurants and guesthouses have "Pai" in their name. "Pai Country" "Pai Love" "Pai Cabana". its really fun and everyone here jokes around. There's all the cheap hostels in the city but then in...
