Me and this guy Christian decided to rent some "motos"(scooter like things) and explore the outskirts of Pai. There were a couple looking points to see and some waterfalls and hot springs and whatnot.
First waterfall: Mae Yen Waterfall
Never actually got to it, we rode off onto some little dirt trail for about 20 min and then got to a sign that said parking for waterfall, so we left our bikes and walked down the trail. all you could hear was thousands of frogs croaking and it echoing in the valley. it comes to a river and we didnt see any other sort of path to head down so we decided to head through the water. a little ways up there was a path that seemed to be going off into the jungle so we decided to take that. walking through the jungle for another 5-10 min we came out at the same river just a ways down with no more paths to go to. looking down we discovered that the plants had left some sort of staining substance all over our clothes as we brushed by them. tried a bit to wash it off in the river but it wouldnt so we decided to head back. on the way back there was a bunch of guys working on sort of a farm thing? it was lots of really dry dirt set up in the middle of a jungle. suspicious? we headed back to our motos and set off for the next falls.
Second waterfall: Mor Paeng Waterfall
This one was a much more direct route to get to. lots of signs and mostly paved roads. and when we got to the parking area there were actually other tourists there. It was so nice there, the falls were so nice!
I read online to go to the pools that the local kids were playing in cause they were the best ones. they certinly were, we walked up a little bit and there was 3 girls sliding around on the rocks and jumping into the pools. the rock in that are had really flattened out so the water went all over it so we were able to slide down on it kinda like a small waterslide. a little ways down there was a larger fall that went into a bigger pool. we were going to go swimming in it but the current took it right off the edge into another one and I thought it a bit too risky. the boulders and trails around the falls werent very accessable which kinda sucked cause it was hard to get to most of the pools. there were signs that said to watch out .
Third waterfall: Pam Bak Waterfall
We tried to get one more waterfall in during that day but the map that we had wasnt to scale so we though it was much closer than we though, after 15 min of driving we decided that we were too low on gas and headed back to town.
