After going to check out the waterfalls Christian and I went to the Pai Hotsprings. It cost us 200 Baht ($7) to get in and i guess we could stay for is along as we like.
It was super clean inside the park, nothing like the roads in the surrounding area. And because we got there so early in the day it was still cool out and still pretty quiet, only 1 other group of people there. The water was interesting to figure out, it was like a really long stream set up with dams so that there were pools. the further up the stream you went the way hotter it got. eventually i found a happy medium to chill in for a bit but its always so hot here that you cant stay in for too long.
After sitting in the water for a bit we decided to go up and explore the rest of the park, there is a trail that you can take up beside the spring that goes right up to its source. the closer to the source we got the less trees there were. Down by the main pool there were lots of trees in and around the water but it kinda seem to get into a clearing for the hotter water. Right at the top there were 3 bubbling pools which you could feel the heat when you stood near them. you could smell it too. I guess it was sulphurous gas but it just smelled like eggs.
Not rotten eggs though, just eggs. The sign said that the pool was 80 degrees and there was a railing all around so people couldnt get in. i threw i leaf in expecting it to burst into flames or something but it didnt....
Walking down on the other side of the hotsprings we came across a black line going across the path. looking closer we discovered it was a trail of ants! it was the craziest thing cause there were sooooooo many and they were all going the same place.
continuing on we came to a bridge that took us back over the hotspring. We saw a bunch of people walking around carrying bags of eggs. Im not sure if they were cooling them in the water or if there were already cooked, it was definatly hot enough that they could have cooked them right there. On the way out we saw that the little stand was selling these bags of "Fortune Eggs" which is i guess what the locals had. I just though it was funny that sulphur smelled like eggs and they were selling eggs. coincidental tradition? I think not!
